Keep It Down

Emma Oldfield

Comedy-drama ‘Keep It Down’ follows Daisy – a 23 year old singleton as she stumbles between shady one night stands, failed relationships, and yet another celebration that revolves around food. Ever since Daisy’s mum died she’s found a way to cope, it’s not a helpful strategy but it’s the one she knows best. Falling back on old habits and sporadic attempts at sustaining a work-life balance is a recipe for disaster.
The one-woman play confronts an unspoken narrative on eating disorders and the obstacles one faces when fueled by secrecy and shame. To leave behind negative coping mechanisms Daisy must come to terms with her grief and find new ways to heal.
It’s not easy being immersed in a world that thrives on diet culture, especially if you try fighting it alone. Daisy must allow herself to rely on an archaic system held together by a select few good eggs – alongside the mediocracy of normal life, dating, working and socialising of course.
Keep It Down is the dark but hilarious play exploring just how all-consuming eating disorders can be.
